Youth Work Training Courses

Who is it for?

Vanessa Rogers offers a wide range of training and staff development opportunities for those working with young people aged 13-19 (up to 25 with additional needs). Whether you work in a voluntary, faith, community, uniformed, statutory or private sector youth organisation the courses on offer aim to support the delivery of quality youth work and social education.

As an experienced youth worker, Vanessa can also deliver courses directly to, or alongside, young people. Similarly, there are 'train-the-trainer' opportunities avaialble on most courses for both voluntary and paid staff.

What is offered?

A well-known author in the social education field, Vanessa Rogers draws on her own youth work practice and over ten years successful training to provide practical 'hands on' training packages to work effectively with young people.

There are a wide range of course programmes to choose from, and these are offered on a seasonal basis. This means that Vanessa is constantly working on fresh courses developed in response to young people’s issues, and you can be sure the content is always up to date, reflecting current youth work and participation trends.

All of her established one-day courses can be adapted to form an interesting and interactive workshop or ‘taster session’ suitable for conferences, meetings or events. Longer courses are available for those wishing for more in-depth learning, including commissioning Vanessa to deliver recognised accredited professional development courses.

If you are looking for training in a specific area of youth work you can commission Vanessa to write a bespoke training programme specifically for you. Bespoke training in-house can allow greater flexibility and be a cost effective way of maximizing learning.

Detached Youth Work

This range of courses offer those working outside of building based youth projects an opportunity to develop the detached youth work skills required for effective street work.

Issue Based Youth Work

Based on Vanessa’s highly acclaimed resource books, these courses offer ideas for activities and projects across the youth work curriculum. This includes the popular issue based training sessions such as Cyberbullying, Working with Young Women and new courses like Youth Work and Social Media.

Community Participation & Youth Involvement

Increasingly agencies are looking to consult with young people and encourage their active involvement in shaping the services that affect them. This section offers a range of training programmes to support and motivate young people to get involved, have their say and bring about positive change. This includes things like Scrutiny Committees, Mystery Shopping Projects, Youth Councils and Youth Consultations.

Early Intervention & Targeted Support

Courses in this section consider the needs of vulnerable, ‘at risk’ or hard to reach young people and offer programmes that explore needs and offer effective ways of engaging them in targeted youth work.

Practical Youth Work

This section is about developing core youth work skills, staff development and supporting volunteers. This includes managing challenging behaviour, developing management skills and drug and alcohol awareness courses.

All participants are provided with a certificate of attendance upon successful completion of each course.
