About Vanessa Rogers

UK based Vanessa worked briefly as a teacher before qualifying as a youth worker at Leicester's De Montfort University, achieving a Master's Degree in Community Education. A former manager of services for children and young people in Hertfordshire, she is now an independent trainer and renowned author.

Vanessa's distinctive writing style provides an invaluable toolkit for creative social education, exploring a wide range of issues in an easily accessible way. Her writing credits include a series of practice based resource books, published worldwide by Jessica Kingsley Publishers, activity packs for the National Youth Agency and teaching and learning packs for two BBC3 series The Baby Borrowers and Underage and Pregnant.

Alongside her writing Vanessa is an experienced trainer and facilitator. Based on her books and informed by her youth work practice, organisations can choose from a wide range of off-the-shelf training workshops or commission on a bespoke basis.

She explains: "I'm passionate about youth work and the unique relationships that youth workers build with young people, particularly those considered vulnerable or at risk. I continue to work with young people regularly and can't imagine ever stopping. After all, how can I train others if my own practice is out of date?"

In addition to training under the VR Youth Work banner, she is a an Associate Trainer for organisations including UK YouthAC Education and Kip Education and sits on the council of the Institute for Youth Work.
