Active Citizenship

Creative citizenship education motivates young people to explore different ways of being a citizen and encourages them to take an active part in their communities. From local campaigns to wider consultations around young people’s services there are an increasing number of opportunities for young people to shape services. Central to this is encouraging them that it is worth getting involved and that their voices will be heard.

This interactive day provides those working with young people the opportunity to explore a range of activities and ideas that encourage and motivate young people. It can also be delivered to youth councils or young people actively involved in their community. The emphasis is on understanding the decision making process and building communication skills so they can make a difference locally and nationally.

Learning outcomes

By the end of this course participants will be able to:

• Explore what citizenship and active participation is
• Understand how decisions are made
• Consider ways to promote active citizenship and community involvement
• Try out activities to stimulate discussion and develop creative programmes
